FLYING TO LAS VEGAS

We have a few suggestions and tips for planning your next flight to Las Vegas. We also know that you guys have some great cash saving tips too! If you do, please provide those tips to us via email!

The Las Vegas airport is a busy place. When flying commercial into Las Vegas, you'll be flying into McCarran International Airport (Airport code: LAS). For us, 9 times out of 10 times, we fly Southwest.com for two reasons. First, they have non-stop service from our city directly into Las Vegas. Second, they usually are the cheapest fare to Las Vegas from our airport.

Many of you have recommended both www.allegiantair.com and www.flyfrontier.com as affordable airlines. Make sure you check those carriers as well when you are pricing your airfare. We've had a ton of success using travel websites such as expedia.com, kayak.com and tripadvisor.com. These provide most all carrier's flight info and pricing in a side-by-side comparison.

If the fare is comparable for a non-stop versus a flight with connections, we ALWAYS choose the non-stop flight. With connections come risks of missing flights. This takes away from a Vegas vacation which is NEVER acceptable in our book.

If it is possible to become a frequent flyer with a particular airline, then do so and take advantage of the frequent fliers club. Our last flight on Southwest.com to Las Vegas was free because we had accumulated so many miles with them in the last few trips.

A lot of people we know who fly to Vegas (or anywhere) use credit cards to accumulate miles with airlines. We've never used this method, as we don't use credit cards, but if you manage your monthly budget appropriately, then this is another opportunity of earning a free flight along the way.

Regardless of how you get there, flying is usually the preferred method of choice. Always, if possible, search flights well in advance of your travel dates and be flexible with your travel days. This saves money! Friday, Saturday and Sunday are the most expensive, so if you are flexible, try a Monday through Thursday travel plan. You'll also find rates at the hotels are much lower on those dates too!

See ya in Las Vegas!
